Manila Hotel 1
We’re taking a
research trip to downtown Manila, staying at The Manila Hotel. Grace found a
great deal online so we decided to live it up a bit. The Manila Hotel was built
in 1912 and was a center for dancing and jazz during the 1920s so I’m writing
about the building in my dissertation. We figured it would be interesting to
stay there for a night or two. The building was pretty much completely
destroyed during WWII but was rebuilt to match the old building.
The hotel is next
to all the major sights and places of downtown Manila. Tomorrow we’re actually
going to do some sight-seeing in Manila: we’re going to do a tour of Intramuros
and walk through the Luneta, the old park where the Philippine Constabulary
Band gave public concerts two times a week. This is a completely different
scene than Marikina and many of the other areas of metro Manila that we’ve
seen. Should be an interesting day tomorrow.
We took a few vides of the Manila Hotel lobby. There was a band playing Christmas music in the evening: Video 1, Video 2.
