Second Hong Kong trip, part 1

We’re back in Manila after another fun trip to Hong Kong. We got back to our place around 1:20am and then were welcomed back by the sounds of yet another 6:30am parade that featured sirens, drummers, and lots of glockenspiels (kind of like the UNDay parade we wrote about earlier). So we’re a bit tired.
It’s going to take a few days to upload some of the videos I took but we’ll hopefully post those soon. We’ll just do a brief recap of the first part of our HK trip here.
I arrived in Hong Kong last Thursday night and did a few days of research at Hong Kong Baptist University library before Grace and her parents joined me on Sunday evening. We spent the next five days showing them some of the favorite places we found our last trip and checking out some new areas.
Since the library was closed on Sunday morning, I wandered around, chancing upon a great walk that went up high above Happy Valley, with great views down into the city.

After the walk, I meandered through Victoria Park. I didn’t realize this ahead of time, but on Sunday this park is THE meeting space for all of the Indonesian women working in Hong Kong. There were hundreds of them eating together throughout the whole area.

On Monday, I went back to do more research in the morning but joined up with Grace and her parents in the afternoon at Hong Kong Park, home to an incredible aviary.

On Tuesday, we took a day trip to Macau, an hour-ferry ride away. Macau was a Portuguese colony and it was really interesting to see how much more European it felt than Hong Kong. While Macau might be better known for its gambling, we were interested in the older parts of town.
