Rainy Days
We’ve been having lots of
rainy days here lately. There have been some storms out in the Pacific to the
east of the Philippines that have brought some wet weather to the Manila area.
We hear that there might have been some flooding but we wouldn’t have known
that from our regular routine. The other day classes were cancelled at many
schools in metro Manila because of the heavy rains. Apparently this is a fairly
common occurrence. While there are times when it drizzles lightly,
normally the rain falls quite hard for limited amounts of time. We were able to
capture just a little bit of this in a short video looking out from our kitchen
window over our tiny balcony.
As might be expected in a
climate when heavy rains can appear in a short amount of time, everyone always
carries around an umbrella. All the libraries and buildings are set up with
umbrella holders next to the door to keep people from bringing in wet
umbrellas. If there’s an awning or overhang in front of the door (and most
places are built with one) most people leave their umbrellas open to dry off a
bit. At popular buildings like the library this can result in a giant swarm of
umbrellas that can make it tricky to find your way to the entrance.
