More from Salamanca

There’s nothing really new to report here as we finish our third week in Salamanca. While we’re sticking with our regular routine, now that it’s July there are a few minor changes. In the past few days we’ve noticed many more American students around town and a (related?) jump in prices in some of the souvenir stores. The library is now closed after 3:00 so we’ve been doing our evening work session in a big room at Grace’s school. A good accordion busker has stationed himself below the room a few times. Since this will be our last weekend in Salamanca and the pool is closed both days, we’re going to try to check out some of the museums and sights that we’ve neglected so far. Below are some photos from a long walk we took around town this past Sunday.

Our host has served us her gazpacho two times now. We like the using the various toppings to add to the texture of the soup.

Our long walk began with a jaunt through the Parque de los Jesuitas a few blocks away.

The park was bordered on one side by some industrial-looking buildings

Our walk along the bike path took us past more buildings like these.

The path then turned down alongside the river, with some fun views back to the center of the city.

Our route took us back into town, past the beautiful stained glass of the Casa Lis, a museum of art nouveau work (we’re planning on going on Sunday).

The little tourist train passed us at one point

Looking back to the center of town from the other side of the city

There are practically always storks hanging out on the tops of the oldest, biggest buildings.
